English : Individual Trainings

Trainings, courses and seminars for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people on a 1:1 basis

Within the scope of individual trainings the focus lies on the course participants’ special needs. All trainings offered are taught in Sign Language (for Deaf people) and in German (for hard of hearing people).

1:1 Training:
…means: at a time, one trainer is there for you. Therefore, the trainer can directly concentrate on your needs, problems, strengths, and weaknesses. The result may be intense and target oriented learning.

Target groups:
-Unemployed people and those who are seeking for work have the possibility to prepare themselves intensively for entering into the labour market through individual training.
Working people have the opportunity to continue their studies in a respective occupational area.

English : Deafness

Deafness

In Austria, about 8.000 to 10.000 people are „Deaf“ and mainly communicate in their favoured language: Austrian Sign Language.
„Deaf“ is the most commonly used term, whereas the use of the out-dated term “deaf and dumb” is seen as discriminating. Historically seen, Deafness is very significant for equalizent, because since its beginning in the year 2001, equalizent employs Deaf people. Our courses and services are aligned to Deafness, so interpreters are hardly needed.

The staff members are either Deaf or have excellent ÖGS (Austrian Sign Language) skills. Therefore, classes are directly taught in ÖGS:
Many pleased clients tell us about the advantages of this form of teaching. Not only is ÖGS a main part of our offers in the area of Deafness, but also our rooms which are equipped barrier-free. Light signals, optical media, adapted course materials, disappearing screens, special desks etc. offer target oriented learning at equalizent.

Target oriented integration mentoring are additionally included in our daily courses and trainings, in order to make entering into a first labour market or continuing further education easier.

Even working people have the opportunity to attend our numerous further education courses which are taught in ÖGS.

English : Hardness of Hearing

Hardness of Hearing

A hearing impairment is a decrease in one’s ability to hear. The degree of hearing impairment varies from a slight decrease in the hearing ability to severe hearing disabilities; as a consequence, the people concerned depend on hearing aids and visual information. If they cannot hear despite the use of hearing aids (especially language), one speaks of a remaining hearing ability or Deafness (see glossary:
Deafness).
Depending on the severeness of hearing impairment, the following classification is commonly used:
Mild loss 20-40%
Moderate loss 40 -60 %
Severe loss 60-80%
Remaining hearing ability 80-95%
Deafness 120%

Generally it is estimated that 10 percent of a country’s population is hearing impaired (for example, about 700.000 hearing impaired people are living in Switzerland).
equalizent respects this target group’s needs, for example by technical adaptation of rooms. Those rooms are equipped with so called induction hearing loops. The group of hearing impaired people is very diverse, therefore the courses for this target group are mainly integrative courses, which means that hardness of hearing is respected, but not only the people concerned work together in one group. Even in the field of individual schooling (see also glossary: individual schooling) there have already been positive responds, that 1:1 training is a very good way to address individual needs accordingly.

Projects

equalizent is a company that carries out most of its services on a project basis. Project management requires specific knowledge in terms of planning, organising, carrying out, and revising projects (see glossary: project management).
At equalizent, we use special software (MS-Project) to be able to carry out our work successfully.
In addition to our trainings, we take part in (trans-) national projects – we cooperate with companies and institutions that have similar aims. Our understanding of networking does not only take place within national borders, but our view focuses goal-oriented on Europe and similar international institutions.
Many projects support our professional competences or supplement our (building up) work. In all areas of our company (see glossary: Deafness, Hardness of Hearing, Sign Language, Diversity Management) our clear ambition is to include relevant surroundings and to exchange know-how.
